For years, I struggled with my body, unaware that what I was eating—or sometimes not eating—was having a huge impact on my overall health. Whether it’s due to a food allergy, intolerance, or sensitivity, the way our bodies react to certain foods can significantly affect our well-being. Understanding these reactions is key to making informed choices that support our health and wellness.

Breaking Down Food Reactions:

1. Allergy: Food allergies affect the immune system, triggering symptoms that can range from mild to life-threatening, even when only a tiny amount of the offending food is consumed. Common allergens include nuts, shellfish, and dairy, and symptoms can appear almost immediately, making allergies relatively easy to detect. If you’re allergic to certain foods, your best course of action is to avoid them altogether.

2. Intolerance: Unlike allergies, food intolerances aren’t life-threatening, but they can cause significant discomfort. Symptoms are typically digestive, such as bloating, gas, or diarrhea, and occur when your body struggles to break down certain foods or nutrients. Lactose intolerance is a common example—many people lack the enzyme lactase, which is needed to digest the sugar found in milk.
