Understanding these reactions is key to making informed choices that support our health and wellness.
Breaking Down Food Reactions:
1. Allergy: Food allergies affect the immune system, triggering symptoms that can range from mild to life-threatening, even when only a tiny amount of the offending food is consumed. Common allergens include nuts, shellfish, and dairy, and symptoms can appear almost immediately, making allergies relatively easy to detect. If you’re allergic to certain foods, your best course of action is to avoid them altogether.
2. Intolerance: Unlike allergies, food intolerances aren’t life-threatening, but they can cause significant discomfort. Symptoms are typically digestive, such as bloating, gas, or diarrhea, and occur when your body struggles to break down certain foods or nutrients.
