Coach Kenya LaShelle Elliott
    Meet Coach Kenya LaShelle Elliott

From 592 Pounds and a Deathbed to a Life of Purpose

Author. Motivational Speaker. Behavioral Specialist. Transformation Coach. Entrepreneur. Survivor.

But before any of those titles, I was a woman trying to survive.

My name is Kenya LaShelle Elliott, and I am the Founder of I.R.I.S.E. Transformation Coaching Firm & Beautique, I Realize I’m Strong Enough.

Today, people may see the weight I released, the woman I became, the business I built, or the people I now help transform their lives.

But there is an entire story behind the woman you see today.

    A story of trauma.

    Loss.

    Food addiction.

    Obesity.

    Illness.

    Brokenness.

    Behavior change.

    Faith.

    Recovery.

    And ultimately, purpose.

    I didn’t build I.R.I.S.E. because I studied weight loss from a textbook.

I built it because I had to learn how to save my own life.

    Before the Transformation

Long before I became Coach Kenya, I spent years professionally helping other people change their lives.

I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and my Master’s Degree in Professional Counseling & Behavioral Health, and spent more than 17 years working in behavioral modification, clinical psychology and behavioral health.

My professional career included working with severely mentally ill populations, adolescents in behavioral health, individuals with complex behavioral patterns, and people whose lives had been deeply affected by trauma.

    I understood behavior.

    I understood psychology.

    I understood trauma.

I understood why people sometimes repeatedly engage in behaviors they know are hurting them.

    At least professionally, I did.

What I didn’t yet understand was how profoundly those same principles were operating in my own life.

Because while I knew how to help other people…

    I was slowly disappearing.

When Food Became More Than Food

My relationship with food wasn’t simply about hunger.

    Food became comfort.

    Food became escape.

    Food became relief.

Food became something I could reach for when emotions became too difficult to hold.

Like so many people struggling with emotional and compulsive eating, I wasn’t always eating because my body needed nourishment.

Sometimes I was attempting to soothe something.

Sometimes I was trying not to feel something.

Sometimes I was trying to survive something.

And over time, what provided temporary comfort created devastating consequences.

    My weight continued climbing.

    My health continued declining.

And eventually I reached 592 pounds.

    I became bedridden.

    I was critically ill.

And the woman who had spent years helping other people live had reached a place where she was eating to die.

592 Pounds. Bedridden. And Preparing to Die.

There was no glamorous “before” moment.

    There wasn’t a motivational photoshoot.

    There was illness.

    There was pain.

    There was isolation.

    There was fear.

And there was a woman whose life had become so physically and emotionally painful that death began to feel easier than continuing to live.

My health deteriorated until I found myself facing circumstances no one imagines for their life.

    I was on my deathbed.

I began preparing for the possibility that I wasn’t going to survive.

At 592 pounds, my body reflected something much deeper than a number on a scale.

It reflected years of unresolved pain, survival behaviors, emotional coping and a relationship with food that had become destructive.

That distinction matters to me today.

Because when people looked at my body, they could see obesity.

They couldn’t see everything underneath it.

And that is one of the reasons I coach differently today.

The Question That Changed My Life

Eventually, I had to confront a question that went far beyond weight loss:

    What if?

What if my life wasn’t over?

What if there was still purpose attached to my name?

What if the things I had survived didn’t have to become the things that destroyed me?

What if I could learn to respond differently to pain?

What if I could change my relationship with food?

What if my mind could change before my body ever did?

    And most importantly:

What if I really was strong enough?

    That question became a decision.

And that decision eventually became a life.

I Didn’t Go on Another Diet. I Changed My Life.

My transformation required much more than changing what was on my plate.

I had to change what was happening between my ears.

I began examining my behaviors, triggers, thoughts, routines and relationship with food.

I had to recognize the difference between physical hunger and emotional hunger.

I had to learn what triggered me.

I had to interrupt old patterns.

I had to become intentional about nutrition.

I had to move my body at the level my body could handle.

    I had to develop structure.

    I had to practice accountability.

I had to sit with emotions I once attempted to eat through.

And I had to learn that changing my body without addressing my mind would never create the freedom I desperately wanted.

Through intentional nutrition, behavior modification, mindset work, meditation, movement, accountability and consistent lifestyle change, I ultimately released more than 468 pounds naturally.

But the greatest transformation wasn’t the number I lost.

It was the woman I found underneath it.

The Scale Was Only Part of My Story

This is where my philosophy about weight and wellness became radically different.

I realized that weight loss and weight wellness are not always the same thing.

A person can lose weight without healing their relationship with food.

Someone can live in a smaller body and still experience:

    • constant food noise
    • emotional eating
    • binge-eating behaviors
    • compulsive eating
    • cravings
    • all-or-nothing thinking
    • guilt and shame surrounding food
    • body-image struggles
    • self-sabotaging behavior
    • repeated cycles of restriction and overeating
    • using food to regulate emotions
    • difficulty maintaining lifestyle changes

That is why I.R.I.S.E. has never been about simply making people smaller.

We are interested in helping people become freer.

From My Recovery Came My Purpose

As my life changed, something else became clear.

    Everything I had survived…

    Everything I had studied…

    Everything I had learned professionally…

And everything I was learning personally…

    was coming together.

My professional background in behavioral health gave me one perspective.

My lived experience gave me another.

Together, they helped shape the work I do today.

I began helping others understand that their struggle with food was not always a simple failure of discipline.

Sometimes there were behaviors to examine.

    Triggers to identify.

    Thought patterns to challenge.

    Past experiences to process.

    Habits to replace.

    Nervous-system responses to understand.

And new skills to practice consistently.

That became the foundation of I.R.I.S.E.

    I Realize I’m Strong Enough.

What If? From Death to Destiny

My story eventually became the foundation for my book, What If?: From Death to Destiny.

Those words represent more than a book title.

They represent the question that changed the trajectory of my life.

What if the worst chapter isn’t the final chapter?

What if what nearly destroyed you eventually becomes part of what equips you?

What if survival can become service?

What if pain can produce purpose?

What if you stop asking whether you’re capable and begin discovering what happens when you finally believe:

    I Realize I’m Strong Enough.

From Personal Transformation to a Movement

I.R.I.S.E. grew from one woman’s transformation into a comprehensive approach to wellness.

Today, I work with women and men who may be struggling with obesity, but I also work with people whose challenges cannot be identified simply by looking at their bodies.

    Some are successful professionals.

    Some are executives.

    Some are parents and grandparents.

Some have spent decades caring for everyone except themselves.

Some have tried nearly every diet imaginable.

    Some have had bariatric surgery.

    Some use GLP-1 medications.

Some want an entirely natural approach.

Some don’t necessarily need significant weight loss at all, but they desperately want freedom from food noise, cravings, compulsive eating, emotional eating and the exhausting mental battle surrounding food.

    Different bodies.

    Different histories.

    Different circumstances.

But often the same underlying question:

“Why do I know what I’m supposed to do, but I can’t seem to consistently do it?”

That is where our work begins.

    The I.R.I.S.E. Approach

My work is built around three foundational components:

    Eat Better.

We create practical nutrition structure through the 3-2-1 Daily Meal Plan and individualized nutritional strategies designed to help clients develop sustainable eating patterns rather than live in another cycle of dieting, deprivation and guilt.

    Live Better.

We address the mindset and behavioral side of change through weight-loss meditation, mindfulness, behavior modification, emotional-eating education, food-noise awareness, habit interruption, accountability and practical tools clients can use in real life.

    Feel Better.

We incorporate exercise and intentional movement for all levels and abilities, because movement should support your life, not punish your body.

These three components work together because sustainable transformation rarely comes from addressing only one.

This Is Not Another Diet Program

    I.R.I.S.E. is a therapeutic weight-wellness and behavior-change coaching program, not a diet.

    We don’t simply ask:

    “What did you eat?”

    We are willing to explore:

    • What happened before you ate it?
    • What were you thinking?
    • What were you feeling?
    • Were you physically hungry?
    • Was it food noise?
    • Were you stressed?
    • Were you lonely?
    • Were you exhausted?
    • Did something trigger an old emotional response?
    • What permission thought occurred immediately before the behavior?
    • What pattern are we repeating?
    • And what new response can we practice instead?

That is a very different conversation from simply handing someone another meal plan.

Food is part of the work. It is not always the whole story.

    Support and Accountability Matter

One of the biggest lessons from my own transformation is that information alone doesn’t create lasting change.

Most people struggling with weight already know vegetables are healthier than cookies.

    Knowing isn’t always the problem.

Consistently applying what you know when life happens is the challenge.

That is why support and accountability are central to I.R.I.S.E.

    Transformation happens in ordinary moments:

    • After the stressful meeting.
    • During the argument.
    • When you’re alone at night.
    • When you’re tired.
    • When the scale doesn’t move.
    • When old thoughts return.
    • When motivation disappears.
    • When nobody is watching.

Those are the moments when having tools, structure, accountability and support can change everything.

    More Than 468 Pounds Later…

I have now maintained the overwhelming majority of my transformation for years.

But I don’t tell people my story because I expect them to become me.

I tell it because I want them to understand what may be possible for them.

    My transformation wasn’t perfect.

    It wasn’t linear.

And it wasn’t accomplished because I suddenly developed unlimited willpower.

    It required learning.

    Unlearning.

    Healing.

    Practice.

    Structure.

    Accountability.

    Faith.

    Consistency.

And the willingness to keep choosing my life.

    Again.

    And again.

    And again.

From Survivor to Author, Speaker & Entrepreneur

My journey has allowed me to share my story through television, print, speaking engagements, coaching and media platforms, including features connected with People Magazine, FOX, ABC, NBC, Arizona Daily Mix and Impact Network.

I became a best-selling author, motivational speaker, entrepreneur, transformation coach and founder of I.R.I.S.E.

But accolades aren’t what make this work meaningful to me.

    People do.

The woman who realizes she isn’t hopeless.

The man who finally understands why he keeps sabotaging himself.

The person using a GLP-1 medication who recognizes that appetite suppression doesn’t automatically heal an unhealthy relationship with food.

The bariatric client who discovers that surgery changed their stomach but didn’t erase every thought pattern.

The emotional eater who finally learns to sit with an emotion instead of immediately feeding it.

The person who has spent years ashamed of their body and begins treating that body with respect.

Those moments are why I.R.I.S.E. exists.

Where the Story Is Going Now

I.R.I.S.E. continues to evolve because wellness is evolving.

Today, our work includes therapeutic weight-wellness coaching, behavior modification, mindset education, nutrition strategy, movement support, meditation, accountability, group coaching, private coaching, GLP-1 and medically supported wellness options, educational programs, masterclasses, workbooks and tools designed to help clients create sustainable change.

But the heart of the mission hasn’t changed.

We help people address the patterns beneath the behavior.

    Not just what you’re eating.

    Why.

Not simply how much you weigh.

    How you’re living.

Not just whether you can lose weight.

Whether you can build the skills necessary to create a different relationship with yourself, your body, food and your future.

My Story Is Still Being Written

    I once weighed 592 pounds.

I once found myself bedridden and facing death.

I once used food in ways that were destroying the very life I was trying to survive.

Today, I get to wake up and use what I survived, what I studied and what I learned to help someone else.

That’s not something I take lightly.

I know what it feels like to believe you’ve gone too far.

I also know what can happen when one decision becomes another decision…

    and another…

until eventually you look back and realize:

You aren’t living the same life anymore.

That’s why I will never promise you a quick fix.

I will never tell you that healing happens overnight.

And I will never reduce your entire story to a number on a scale.

But I will remind you of something I had to discover for myself:

Your current chapter does not have to become your final chapter.

    I Realize I’m Strong Enough.

Those words began as something I desperately needed to discover for myself.

Today, they have become an invitation for others.

Maybe you’ve spent years taking care of everyone else.

Maybe you’ve lost and regained the same weight repeatedly.

Maybe food has become comfort, escape, entertainment or emotional relief.

Maybe the food noise never seems to stop.

    Maybe you’ve had surgery.

    Maybe you’re using medication.

    Maybe you’re doing this naturally.

Maybe you’re successful in almost every area of your life and quietly wondering why this is the one area you can’t seem to master.

Or maybe you’re simply ready to stop fighting yourself.

You don’t need another promise of a perfect diet.

    You may need education.

    You may need structure.

    You may need accountability.

    You may need support.

You may need to understand the patterns beneath your behavior.

And you may need someone beside you who understands both the science of behavior change and the lived reality of doing the work.

    That’s why I’m here.

    I’m Coach Kenya LaShelle Elliott.

I went from 592 pounds and preparing to die to building a life devoted to helping other people rise.

And I believe one question can still change everything:

    WHAT IF?

What if this time you don’t just lose weight?

What if you finally begin changing your relationship with the person carrying it?

    I.R.I.S.E.

    I Realize I’m Strong Enough.

Eat Better. Live Better. Feel Better.

Your transformation is about more than weight. It’s about getting your life back.
